Turn a Requirements Summary into a First-Draft Deck with Gemini in Google Slides

What This Does

You already have a requirements summary from technical discovery. Gemini in Google Slides reads a short description of the prospect's use case and an optional reference deck, and builds a multi-slide draft you edit instead of starting from a blank canvas.

Before You Start

• A requirements summary or discovery notes ready to paste or reference
• Google Slides open at docs.google.com/presentation
• Access to Gemini in Slides through an eligible plan: either your organization's Business Standard plan ($14/user/month) or a personal Advanced subscription ($20/month). Open a blank presentation and check for an "Ask Gemini" button in the top right. If it is missing, ask your Workspace admin whether Gemini is enabled for your account
• An existing branded deck saved in Drive, if you want the new deck to match house formatting

Steps

1. Find the AI feature

Open a new, blank presentation in Google Slides and look for the "Ask Gemini" button in the top right corner of the window. Click it to open the generation panel on the right side of the screen.

2. Tell it what you need

Describe the presentation in the panel: the prospect's industry, the problem they described in discovery, and the product areas that solve it. If you have an existing deck whose look you want to reuse, click "Match presentation style" and select it from Drive. You can also click "Add sources" to point Gemini at supporting files in Drive. Gemini may ask a couple of clarifying questions before it builds an outline. Review the outline it proposes and adjust any slide titles that feel off. Click "Update plan" if you changed anything, or "Approve" once it looks right.

3. Review and use the result

Keep the tab open. Slide generation takes several minutes, longer for a long deck. When it finishes, go slide by slide: check that product names and capabilities match what you actually sell, not a generic version Gemini inferred. Ask Gemini to regenerate individual slides or images that miss the mark, and edit text boxes directly for anything you can fix faster by hand.

Real Example

Scenario: Discovery with a mid-size logistics company turned up a need for real-time shipment visibility, an integration with their existing warehouse management system, and a security review before rollout.

What you type: "Build a technical presentation for a logistics prospect evaluating our platform for real-time shipment tracking. Cover our integration approach for warehouse management systems, our security and compliance posture, and a suggested rollout timeline. Match the style of our Q3 enterprise template." Then attach the Q3 template from Drive under "Match presentation style."

What you get: A draft deck with title, agenda, integration architecture, security, and next-steps slides in the house template's fonts and colors, ready for you to swap in the prospect's actual system names and verify the integration diagram against what you confirmed in discovery.

Tips

• Paste your actual requirements summary rather than a one-line prompt. Gemini's output only reflects what you tell it, and vague prompts produce generic slides you will spend more time fixing than writing from scratch
• Check every claim about specs, certifications, or timelines against your product knowledge base before the deck goes in front of the prospect. Gemini writes convincing sentences, not verified ones
• If a source document you reference contains a customer's real network layout, IP addresses, or drawing numbers under NDA, strip or genericize those details in your prompt. Gemini in Slides can pull from files across your Drive, so keep restricted material out of the folders you point it at for this deck

Tool interfaces change. If "Ask Gemini" has moved, look for a similar Gemini or AI icon near the top of a new Slides presentation.
